The Tukutuku panels are used to tell a story and to decorate the Whare. By sending us your Tukutuku panel you are telling us your design story and adding aesthetic beauty to the interior of the For the Masses meeting house.
For the Masses was founded in 2000 by Wellington designer James Burgess. While browsing online design magazine sites (e-zines) like K10K, Surfstation & THREE.OH, James saw the potential for a e-zine with a purely New Zealand perspective, similar to the way sites like Australian INFront & Design is Kinky feature predominately Australian individuals & companies.
In late 2000 James set to work developing the very basic, raw design e-zine that became For the Masses. Complete with clever, yet stupid catch phrase; 10-15 minute delays at the Paremata roundabout Information Superhighway.
The site was very basic, but it slowly started to grab the attention of the New Zealand design community.
