PeteAnother year, another Semi-Permanent Auckland. How did you enjoy it?
Personally, I thought the caliber of speakers this year was much, much higher. I really enjoyed the ALT, Misery, Glue Society and UVA presentations (who can go wrong with someone mocking Bono?). I still think the 'moderated' discussion session needs work (although I can appreciate how difficult those are). It was a little strange to have Phil Boswick MCing and having to ask the presenters questions when no-one else from the audience would (I kinda missed the cellphone thing).
Next year sounds like it's gonna be huge, 2 days with more disciplines covered. I'd really been keen to see a presentation from left field, like a company that's engaged with design, but not a traditional design company. Might give us the chance for the community to hear what it's like from an 'outsider' looking in, even up the client bashing and all that.
The Church once again put on a fantastic event and everyone that helped out deserve a big pat on the back.
nicoleYeah i didnt know what to expect going in but was amazed by the whole event. Definitely worth the ticket price just to get insight into how these companys work. Being into motion graphics myself i loved Umeric. I also think Alt represented NZ well alot of inspiring ideas but for me the highlight was UVA - a fantastic speaker showcasing amazing work. Not to mention the goodie bag aswell! Cant wait till next year - sounds like a great idea to do it over 2 days.
RuthJust running through and putting my hand up quickly for my favourite, Glue Society. Awesome to see creatives "having fun at their clients expense" while making really effective and entertaining work..
oh, and bigups for Alt. Tight and graceful conceptual work. Great to see multi disciplinary Art school kids totally rocking it. chur.
SubcideI was really worried after Alt had finnished because the next 2 speakers dragged a bit for me (good work, just not great presentations), but everything after lunch was amazing. Much better than last year.
SporeJolly good show all round really! Some great work and some interesting + funny stuff being talked about. Alt, Glue great fun + Umeric - loved the sealife inspired goodness! And of course the insight into UVA job interview process later on was great (wonder if it will catch on?). Was quite surprised how open most were to bagging clients, but was amusing for us anyway haha!
Biggest dissapointment...when UVA said they had a surpise for us I was sitting there thinking "great they've been secretly filming us all with those 3d cameras!" but err no :P . The other lowlight was no coffee in the theater - skulling hot coffee at the doors no fun!
UrinoscopyI think this thing was a load of arse..yes there were good speakers (glue society being high on my list) but some of them dragged on for way to long and people at the conference were generally really rude. I always thought these things were about meeting new people and networking. Yet not one person would get out of their comfort zone.
budafistI liked it. I wasn't going to go due to the steep price, but got given a free ticket so thought "why not?"
Glad there was a woman speaker up there. What's up with that? At design school we were about 70% female yet the "greats" or the people who are considered to have made it are 90% men.
*squints into the sunset*
I'll go next year for the 2 day event but will the price be twice as much?
