For the Masses was founded in 2000 by Wellington designer James Burgess. While browsing online design magazine sites (e-zines) like K10K, Surfstation & THREE.OH, James saw the potential for a e-zine with a purely New Zealand perspective, similar to the way sites like Australian INFront & Design is Kinky feature predominately Australian individuals & companies.
