Yes, yes, come one, come all to this special extension to SP05. Jordan has kindly given some of his time this week to answer your questions. I'm not sure if he'll be able to answer all of them, so please bear with us. This forum (like all the others) will be moderated by the FTM crew.
Thanks again to FTM for this great opportunity.

Hello Jordan, the Wolf-Ollins presentation on Saturday was fantastic to say the least - I was amazed at the scale of many of the re-branding projects you have worked on.

With regards to the Pepsico and Tesco projects, what was the most challenging aspects of undertaking jobs of this scale? I see that Tesco has 37,000 of it own brands! - How does the sheer size of these brands affect the creative process?

in response to TIM D, i think it really all depends on the scale of of the project, if it's a client project or a personal piece of work. But regardless of what its for or who it's for i think there are a few things I always think of, 1. and it's usually the most important thing is clarity, Ideas only have one shot of getting recognized and understood, if it's art or a branding it doesn't matter you are trying to communicate, and communication has to be clear and to the point, even if the point is to be confusing you need to commincate that quickily....once you have peoples attention then you can start really communicating ideas. 2. once you have peoples attenion you need to tell a story, at a base level I believe we all want to learn and we all want to be heard, so once to have peoples attention you need to tell them something of some sort of value that hopefully they can relate back to there own experiences and make a connection with you or to what your saying....i hope the helps i bit....what I refer back to....thats a hard one I thing one thing I refer back to alot is a GUT feeling, and I count and put trust lot on friends and co-workers... I really believe that you have to talk and get opinions from anyone and everyone,,,,and then balance those opinions and feelings with your own gut instincts.....when it all comes down to it really there is no easy answer or plan you just have to be thoughtful and think through what you are doing, every challenge might have a number of different solutions and you have to beaware of that.....oh and please excuse my spelling

I'd just like to say, that although overall I wasn't that thrilled with SP, Bryan did a great job.
I really appreciated his honest and humble approach to design and life. Especially considering the magnitude of the brands he is now working with.
A Really worthwhile presentation. Cheers.

in response to RIZ, I can't really comment on the tesco or pepsi project too much since i didn't have a hand in working with them but I'll give it a shot with a general answer. Ideally it shouldn't matter if you have a brand that is one product or a million products, on the creative side you try to develop the best brand design that can be easily applied to what ever product or sub-brand there is....The biggest issues are usually with all the product managers and dealing with them. Everyone has an opinion or what they think is the right answer....the thing to try to avoid is design by commitee, you need a strong, smart overall brand manager that you can work with on the client side, then things tend to run a bit smoother....

Hi Jordan

I was wondering if your role includes selling (communicating) your design to the client? If so can you shed any insights on how to balance mistique / chrisma and logic / deconstruction - if thats relevant? Do you have any methods or do you let the work sell itself? :)

*Design by commitee. Something to be very wary of. Thanks for your reply.
