The Tukutuku panels are used to tell a story and to decorate the Whare. By sending us your Tukutuku panel you are telling us your design story and adding aesthetic beauty to the interior of the For the Masses meeting house.
absorbHi James - I'm glad you mentioned them. Can we discuss it? I got their propoganda in the mail and was thoroughly dissapointed by the whole thing. Would love to know what everyone thought!
JamesApparently the guy behind WDANZ (wtf!?) is some cowboy. That’s just the rumours I have heard.
You would be better off joining DINZ.
absorbThanks James - a nz google search for mr smith led to some interesting finds. Especially in regards to the spammer, I've recieved two emails - one was through my website, the other was very dissapointing in it's execution.
Barrywow, that is an interesting google search!
uncovers a fair amount of dirt (He is the only person in NZ to have had a .nz registrar forcibly de-authorised), and at least one positive (ceo of this, butt ugly site which nonetheless seems to have good intentions)
The "roadshow" Auckland event is at the Grey Lynn Community Centre!? If it were actually an 'organisation' I could understand such a lo-fi venue for a roadshow it but he makes no bones about the fact that the WDANZ a commercial venture.
aint gonna be duping me out of twofiddy a year anytime soon
barnaclebarnesHe used to own Go Kiwi Internet. He shows up to the Auckland Web Design Meetup most months if you want to chat to him about it. I'm sitting on the fence to see how things pan out. I prefer grassroots, non-profit organisations myself.
Tim DI didnt even get the spam.
not cool enough i guess. not to mention too poor
be nice if there was an effective NZ web design collective tho.
BarryTo what end Tim? What would you like this organisation to do or achieve?
I'm not sure its entirely necessary. Theres TUANZ and Best awards if you want your work to be judged by your peers. Not to mention any number of overseas competitions online. If its industry affiliation you're after, like James I would suggest DINZ. They certainly have much more 'standing in the community' whatever that might mean.
Ha! I can't believe I'm saying that, every year I find most if not all the web entries at the Best awards laughable and am incredulous at what wins awards.
*Other than our entries of course. And when we win. Ha!
I'm with you barnaclebarnes on the fence sitting, I'm not pre-judging anyone or anything, but, in my opinion, the idea of a commercial venture calling itself an "association" and puporting to do things on behalf of an "industry" makes me instantly sceptical. I can't fathom what benefits might be had by joining up. Hot cup of tea at the Grey Lynn Community Centre perhaps?
PipProd.I must simply say i love FTM for such discussions as these, they make me feel better.
"WDANZ is a pro-active organisation working to provide highly valuable, practical training, support, networking and business opportunities to its Members." Now I have heard airy fairy crap like that before.
I foolishly joined DINZ (stupidly was mislead) and will never again, they dont do anything except send huge boring emails to events in freakn auckland with boring ppl, I do more for them considering I put links to people I am involved with on my webpage, anyway you guys all know this but I am totally turned off any 'organisations' your better off with mates who are honest, free and funny.
I seriously though the WDANZ was a joke!
